Had a Tough Quarter?

Whether it's your first quarter or fifth as a transfer student, sometimes a tough quarter can really make you question your ability, but we know what you are capable of. Sometimes it just takes a little reflection and support to bounce back.

Academic difficulty looks different for all students. For some, maybe that last quarter didn't go as planned or you landed on academic probation. For others, maybe you didn't get the grade you expected on a class you felt went well. Whether you are experiencing difficulty in your courses or challenges outside of your academics, you college and major advisors and the Triton Transfer Hub team are here to support you navigate your educational journey.

What is my academic status?

Your quarterly and cumulative GPA might impact your academic status at UC San Diego. The following information was last updated on September 2023. For the most updated information, please visit Back on Track.

Good Standing

Your term and cumulative grade point average (GPA) are 2.0 or higher.

Academic Probation

  • You are on Academic Probation if your current term GPA OR cumulative GPA is at least 1.5 but less than 2.0. 
  • Consider Academic Probation as a warning; You can still enroll in classes.
  • Academic Probation will NOT show up on your official UCSD transcripts. 

Subject to Disqualification

  •  You are Subject to Disqualification if at the end of a term your GPA is less than 1.5 OR if you have completed two successive terms on academic probation without achieving a cumulative GPA of 2.0.
  • If your academic status is Subject to Disqualification at the end of Spring Quarter, your academic record will be reviewed by your college and your continued enrollment will be determined by your college provost. Notification of disqualification decisions are made as quickly as possible through the VAC at the end of June.

Academically Disqualified

  • Academic disqualification means you are prohibited from enrollment in classes at UC San Diego for a minimum of one academic year.
  • You may appeal your disqualification from the university, but there is no gurantee of approval.
  • Review the information on readmission for more information on the readmission process.
